Special Daily CATCH UP Summer CLASSES!
Special Daily CATCH UP Summer CLASSES!
Kids need to be ready for the school year starting in September, 2022. Most students have had an erratic school year these last two years. Let’s help them catch up and get the skills they need to succeed better than ever!
The classes will not only inform students but have them practice the skills they need to catch up and maintain a good academic level for school. If the students apply what we teach them to their school work in September, they will find school work much less stressful and easier, and will be at a large competitive advantage over their peers.

Daily CATCH UP summer classes FAQ:
Q: Will there be homework?
A: Our classes are designed to be productive during class time with students producing content on the spot as they are being taught and guided by the instructor. Some light homework (~20 to 30 mins) will be given Monday to Thursday; AP students will have access to a multitude of assignments that they can do for practice, time permitting.
Q: Will there be testing and marks?
A: Yes, we will keep records of performance and share these with you. The last day of each 2-week block will feature a non-stressful test of skills to measure how much the student has learned. AP students will have a mock AP exam at the end of each two-week module.
Q: Can I register for only one week?
A: The classes are not designed for single-week registration. Please book in the 2-week slots as you see in the schedule above.
Q: The classes show a spread of grades. Will this affect their learning?
A: No. We not only have many, many years of experience successfully teaching summer classes to blocks of students, we know how to adjust expectations, marking, and feedback to fit an individual’s level and needs. A Grade 12 student will be expected to produce a more sophisticated essay than a Grade 9 student, for example, but they will both be expected to use correct essay format and style. What we teach in the class will be appropriate for all the students involved. AP students will be taught to the AP course and exam standards.
Q: My son is in Grade 9 and he was put into the MID class. His classmate is also in Grade 9 but he was put in the older class. Why?
A: While age and grade level are obviously important in determining the right class for a student, we broaden our criteria beyond the school board’s to include factors like maturity, attitude, values, family support, and motivation. What’s more, if a student starts in a level and exceeds expectations, we are only happy to adjust his level up. Alternatively, if a student is struggling or not performing well, we will adjust his level down to help him gain traction and confidence.
Q: My daughter’s friend is in ELL 3 and you accepted her into the program. My daughter is also in ELL 3 and you said this wasn’t the right program. Why?
A: Two people are in Tianjin, heading for Beijing. One is on a bicycle, the other is in a car. They both ask for directions. The road you suggest to each is not going to be the same. Likewise, students at the same level now do not necessarily have the same aptitude, attitude, or circumstances in learning. We must make a professional decision to help each student. We have no advantage in recommending the wrong route, so please trust us. Keep in mind that changes and adjustments can be made. If our bicycle traveller suddenly finds a car (i.e. a student’s attitude changes or suddenly shows an increase aptitude), then of course we can adjust the arrangement and place the student in a different level.

INTENSIVE ELL upgrade classes (summer 2022)
July 4 to Aug 26 (40 days)
-this class will feature: intensive reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, listening, and speaking strategies.
FEATURES THAT MAKE THIS PROGRAM UNIQUE:
fees:
$55 / day
$52.50/day for 20 or more days
$50/day for 30 or more days
$47.50/day for all 40 days
Minimum 5-day registration necessary.
FEATURES THAT MAKE THIS PROGRAM UNIQUE:
- Just as a westerner could not master Chinese without understanding the thinking and culture of Chinese speakers, so is it difficult for Chinese speakers to master English without the thinking and culture of the English language. The instructor is a native speaker of English.
- the program is not designed to feed students information about English, but to have students experience English with a native speaker, covering a wide variety of different topics, and lots of expressions and words that no textbook could teach. In this way, English is not a subject in a book, but a skill that students can interact with and master
- the most effective learning method is the FOCUS-DIRECTED method, which uses a language (in this case English) to learn about other things; the students think they are learning about society, culture, history, sociology, biology, and other things, but they are actually learning English. The focus is placed on using English as a tool to learn, which is how language is truly mastered.
- the program teaches students how to learn and how much to learn, not just what to learn
