Spring Break 2023
Personal management and growth workshop with Phil
Students in 2023 are often lost. Many spend time playing video games, working slowly and ineffectively, and consuming social media.
In this 5-day seminar of 1-hour each, students will be challenged to face some of the most important questions about their own learning habits and behaviours. Change must come from within: Phil will help teach them what personal leadership means so they can gain the power to change.
The seminar will cover:
-how to become aware of one’s own weaknesses
-how to develop maturity
-how to develop a good attitude towards school and life
-how to study effectively
-how to set a schedule and stick to it
-how not to procrastinate
-how to deal with distractions
-how to be organized
-how to show leadership
-how to develop your potential to be a good personal manager

Spring Break Novel Study with Karolin (Grades 3-7)
This is a 1-week novel studies program designed for students in grades 3-7. The classes are designed to help students improve their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. During the program, students will engage in close reading and analysis of the text, develop new vocabulary, discuss key events and themes, write a compare and contrast paragraph, and make connections to their own experiences. This program is a great opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a meaningful and engaging literary experience and to build their skills as critical readers and thinkers.
Spring Break Novel Study with Kristen (Grades 8-12)
Students will read a classic English literary work and explore a variety of topics that relate to our modern times. Students will have a daily reading quota, write chapter-by-chapter comprehension questions, and take daily vocabulary tests. Upon completion of the novel, students will meet with Kristen for a 2-hour discussion and planning seminar during which the novel will be discussed in-depth, writing techniques will be explained, and final essay topics will be chosen. Students will then draft a multi-paragraph literary essay on a topic of their choice to be submitted in the subsequent 2-hour writing and editing workshop. By the end of the class, students will have strengthened their literary analysis and writing skills through the production of their literary essays and developed a deeper appreciation of English literature.
